Journal Guide

The German Quarterly serves as a forum for all sorts of scholarly debates - topical, ideological, methodological, theoretical, of both the established and the experimental variety, as well as debates on recent developments in the profession. We particularly encourage essays employing new theoretical or methodological approaches, essays on recent developments in the field, and essays on subjects that have recently been underrepresented in The German Quarterly, such as studies on pre-modern subjects. The German Quarterly is an equal opportunity publication in terms of approaches, topics, epochs and styles in a landscape in which many of the best journals are now specialized. We welcome submissions on all topics in German literature, culture and film from the Middle Ages to the present, as well as comparative and interdisciplinary articles that are relevant to the field of German. Back issues of The German Quarterly are accessible to users at institutions that participate in JSTOR's Arts & Sciences III and Language and Literature Collections. Users are able to browse, search, download, and print the full-text PDF versions of articles from the first volume in 1928 up until the most recent three years.

The Germanic Review delivers the best of international scholarship in German studies. With contributors representing leading research institutions in the United States, Canada, France, Great Britain, Australia, and Germany, the journal features peer-reviewed articles on German literature and culture, as well as reviews of the latest books in the field. Most articles appear in English, although each year a few are entirely in German. Recent issues discussed the works of Walter Benjamin, Ernst Cassirer, and Thomas Mann; German national character; and German identity and historical memory. German scholars and students appreciate The Germanic Review's analyses of German literature, culture, and theory, as well as the lives of German authors. The Gerontologist, published since 1961, is a bimonthly journal (first issue in February) of The Gerontological Society of America that provides a multidisciplinary perspective on human aging through the publication of research and analysis in gerontology, including social policy, program development, and service delivery. It reflects and informs the broad community of disciplines and professions involved in understanding the aging process and providing service to older people. Articles, including those in applied research, should report concepts and research findings, with implications for policy or practice. Contributions from social and psychological sciences, biomedical and health sciences, political science and public policy, economics, education, law, and the humanities are welcome. Brief descriptions of innovative practices and programs are appropriate in the Practice Concepts section.

The Good Society is a journal of the Committee on the Political Economy of The Good Society. PEGS is a nonpartisan, ideologically diverse, nonprofit organization whose goal is to promote serious and sustained inquiry into innovative institutional designs for a good society.

The Hague Journal of Diplomacy is the premier research journal for the study of diplomacy and its role in contemporary international relations. It publishes the best research on the theory, practice and technique of diplomacy in both its traditional state-based bilateral and multilateral forms, plus more recent forms of diplomacy such as track-two diplomacy, field diplomacy and public diplomacy practised by states and non-state entities. Each issue contains research articles and at least one piece focused on the practical aspects of diplomatic experience.

The Henry James Review brings together the best contemporary scholarly, critical, and theoretical work on a major American writer. The journal publishes critical essays and reviews by new as well as established critics of James. Recent issues have included "James and the Sacred" and "Jamesian Arts."

Founded on the conviction that the disciplines of theology and philosophy have much to gain from their mutual interaction, The Heythrop Journal provides a medium of publication for scholars in each of these fields and encourages interdisciplinary comment and debate. The Heythrop Journal embraces all the disciplines which contribute to theological and philosophical research, notably hermeneutics, exegesis, linguistics, history, religious studies, philosophy of religion, sociology, psychology, ethics and pastoral theology. The Heythrop Journal is invaluable for scholars, teachers, students and general readers. Each issue contains at least four substantial articles catering for a wide range of interests, with 'Notes and Comments' on issues raised by contemporary literature. The Book Review section, a major feature of The Heythrop Journal, provides a widely-acclaimed service to authors, researchers, students, general readers, librarians and publishers. In each volume, there is a year-end index. A complete index for the first twenty-five years was published as a supplement in 1984 and a ten-year index was published in 1995. The Heythrop Journal was founded by Dr Bruno Brinkman. It is sponsored by the Heythrop College, University of London.

Founded in 1938, The Historian has one of the largest circulations of any scholarly journal in the US or Britain with over 13,000 paid subscribers, both individual and institutional. The Historian seeks to publish only the finest of contemporary and relevant historical scholarship. It is the commitment of The Historian to serve as an integrator for the historical profession, bringing together the many strands of historical analysis through the publication of a diverse collection of articles.

The History of the Family: An International Quarterly makes a significant contribution by publishing works reflecting new developments in scholarship and by charting new directions in the historical study of the family. Further emphasizing the international developments in historical research on the family, the Quarterly encourages articles on comparative research across various cultures and societies in Asia, Africa, Latin America, and the Pacific Rim, in addition to Europe, the United States and Canada, as well as work in the context of global history. While firmly rooted in history, the Quarterly is interdisciplinary; it publishes articles on historical anthropology, historical sociology, economic history and psychology as they relate to the family and the life course. The History of the Family: An International Quarterly publishes essays submitted by individual authors as well as special topical issues on the history of the family, the household and kinship, marriage, childhood and youth, life course and aging, and historical demography as it relates to the family. The Quarterly also publishes book review essays, methodological reports, descriptions of databases and other source materials and conference reports.
